Pond Construction

Pond construction can  be easy with some thought and pre planning. There are a whole variety of pond types, formal, informal, sunken, raised, mixed the list goes on. This is only a brief overview NOT a comprehensive guide.

Your pond should be as big as you can make it, but it should be built  level, its not unusual to see liner showing on one side of a pond where the owner forgot to check.

The Type of pond depends on what you want to have in it, a wildlife pond is the easiest since it has no requirement  for pumps filters etc, but at the other end of the scale if its a pond for KOI it will need lots of filtration, big pumps and UV's But that's for another time.

There are a few basic rules for pond construction, but the layout is entirely up to you.

Basic Points for any pond:

The finished pond must be level.

Never build under or near trees.

Check for underground pipes.

Try to avoid direct sunlight all day.

Never build to your boundary.

Make plans.

Is the cost of everything you want within your budget?
